This year, the traditional Maize Festival will take place from 6 to 15 August. Organized in honor of the first harvest, Corn is the star of this festival, but local cuisine, culture and traditions play an honorary role. Corn is the most important crop in Jala. The area also produces the largest corn cobs in the world, and some reached almost 20 inches in length. Of course, during the festival, the largest of the ear of wheat wins a prize.
Jala is in the southern part of the state of Nayarit. It is limited to the north with the municipalities of Santa María del Oro and La Yesca and to the south with the municipalities of Ahuacatlán and Ixtlán del Río. To get there, take the road from Tepic to Guadalajara and turn at the junction located about ten minutes after Ixtlán del Río.
