Gay football team from Argentina condemns the 2022 Soccer World Cup in Qatar

Los Dogos Football team stated that in the Middle East state condemns homosexuality with imprisonment.

The civil association representing Los Dogos and Argentine athletes called upon homosexual human rights officials to pressure the Argentine Football Association (AFA), the South American Football Confederation (CSF) and FIFA to reconsider the choice of Qatar as the host for the Soccer World Cup in 2022.

‘We reject the choice of Qatar as host for the 2022 FIFA football tournament on the grounds that the laws of that nation condemn homosexuality with penalties of up to five years in prison,” said civil partnership Gay Argentine Athletes.

Gay athletes from that country said they also expect “the Argentine state officials ‘to back their claim on Qatar, which considers homosexuality as a’ sexual deviation and a sin.”

Los Dogos also won the bronze medal in soccer in the ‘Gay Games’ 2010. The Qatar choice was controversial days ago, when FIFA president Sepp Blatter defended with a joke the choice of the tournament location.

When asked whether gays and lesbians should worry about whether they can attend the Qatar World Cup because of its hostile attitude towards homosexuality, Blatter joked: “They should refrain from any sexual activity.” The Swiss official then remarked that FIFA will not tolerate any form of discrimination and said he was sure everyone would be able to attend and enjoy the World Cup in Qatar.
