Twitter publishes list of 2010 trends
In a year marked with particularly newsworthy events, including natural disasters and sporting events, social networking site Twitter posted a list with the keywords discussed by its users in 2010.
According to the company, 25 billion messages were sent during 2010, which were analyzed to identify the top 10 trends.
The list of the Top 10 general topics were:
1. Gulf Oil Spill
2. FIFA World Cup
4. Haiti Earthquake
6. Apple iPad
7. Google Android
8. Justin Bieber
9. Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows
10. Paul Octopus
The top 10 list of Tech trends was:
1. Apple iPad
2. Google Android
3. Apple iOS
4. Apple iPhone
5. Call of Duty Black Ops
6. New Twitter
9. MacBook Air
10. Google Instant
To provide a more accurate view of the information trends, Twitter managers decided to group the subjects into eight categories: News events, people, movies, television, technology, World Cup, sports, Hashtags.
In the top 10 general subjects 3 are directly related to the Soccer World Cup, which emphasize the popularity and world appeal of this sport event.
As expected the most talked about Tech subject was the iPad, that took the technology sector by storm and is still the number one Christmas gift for those that can afford it.
