Twitter has more visitors than MySpace but less than Facebook

– Facebook is now consolidated as the leading website, reported The Wall Street Journal.

The short message social network Twitter now has more unique visitors than the veteran MySpace for the first time in late August, in which Facebook has further consolidated its leadership.

After four years online, Twitter has already become the third most popular social networking site, only behind Facebook and Microsoft Windows Live Profile.

In August, Twitter had around 96 million unique visitors, 76 percent more than the same period in 2009, while MySpace lost 17 percent of its visitors with 95 million unique visitors last month.

Twitter is confident that the membership will increase significantly from this moment on after the newest redesign and added functionality made public two weeks ago on the site.

Facebook, meanwhile, grew 54 percent in August compared to the same period last year and now has 598 million unique visitors. Windows Live Profile, a service that integrates e-mail and chat services was left far behind with 140 million visits.
