Rafael Nadal ready to compete in Thailand Open
- The Spanish tennis player, Rafael Nadal, arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday, he is planning to rest for a few days before starting his Asian Tour. The Thailand Open starts on Saturday September 25th.
Nadal, looking tired after the long flight from Spain, was met by executives of the Thai Tennis Federation and dozens of fans cheered as he passed through the airport terminal in this Asian capital.
With traditional Thai flower garlands around his neck, Nadal was escorted by bodyguards and members of the security service from the airport to the vehicle in which more people were awaiting him and escort him to the hotel.
This the first time that Nadal will compete in the Thailand Tennis Open, an event he missed last year due to an abdominal injury at the U.S. Open, which he now won last week, first time in his career and also managing to complete a Grand Slam.
Before competing at the Thailand Open, which will also include other important tennis players such as Argentine Juan Martin del Potro and the Chilean Fernando Gonzalez, the Spanish tennis player will spend a few days relaxing in a luxury hotel complex at the seaside town of Hua Hin, about 90 miles south of Bangkok.
The Thai Tennis Open will start on September 25 and will finish on October 3, but Nadal will play his first match on September 30, the same day that the official opening will take place presided by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Following the Thai tournament, Nadal will travel to China to compete at the Shanghai Masters.
