Mel Gibson still popular despite scandals
- Actor Mel Gibson’s popularity continues to be very high despite the scandal of alleged domestic violence in which he was involved, stated “The Hollywood Reporter” today.
The most recent issues surrounding the star of the “Lethal Weapon” movie series has had little impact on his popularity at the box office.
Three out of four (76%) of Americans said they would buy a ticket to see Gibson’s film, despite having listened to the recordings of fights between the artist and his ex-girlfriend, the Russian Oksana Grigorieva.
The poll of 847 adults by the magazine Vanity Fair and the television program “60 Minutes”, indicates that three-quarters of Americans -80 percent of men and 72 percent of women- support the Oscar winners career (“Braveheart”, 1995). Only 20 percent said they probably would not see his movies because of the incident.
Grigorieva, 40, said Gibson hit her several times during a marriage fight and that he endangered the welfare of their nine-month old daughter.
Gibson is also charged for making derogatory remarks against a Latino employee, calling him a “wetback” while arguing with his ex-girlfriend.
In addition to this fracas, the actor has been involved in other scandals including anti-Semitic remarks made to a police officer in 2006, when he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Gibson, 54, is about to release two films, “The Beaver” and “How I Spent My Summer Vacation.” However, his latest work, “The Edge of Darkness” (“Edge of Darkness”), failed to meet the expectations at the box office.
