Europeans in favor of stronger EU economic governance

– 75% of Europeans think that strengthening economic and financial policies coordination between EU Member States is an effective tool against economic crisis, according to a Eurobarometer survey published today by the European Commission (EC).

The survey, conducted last May during the euro crisis, also reveals that 72% of Europeans support that the European Union (EU) should strengthen the supervision of major international financial groups activities, representing a increase of four percentage points since the last Eurobarometer of autumn 2009.

Viviane Reding, EU Justice Commissioner, said that this majority in favor of strengthening European economic governance “shows that people see the EU as a crucial part of the solution to the crisis.”
